Επιτομή: | Touristic activities generate significant incomes to businesses, local communities and governments due to the revenues that are generated. The indirect link with other sectors of the economy creates a larger base that s affected by the tourism sector in regards to food processing, trade, transport etc. Such a case is evident in Greece, which has sustained a high dependency on the revenues and impacts of tourism on the entire economy. The evolvement [i. e. evolution] of this sector is necessary in order to adapt to the changes in consumer demands, environmental and structural challenges that can impede a continuous and dynamic growth. This study evaluates the behavior of visitors in regards to the criteria and aspects that affect their demand and that can improve the satisfaction that they receive from specific touristic experiences. The findings of this study suggest that age and educational level affect the demand for specific types of tourism and characteristics and services that are demanded. In addition, issues like the convenience of the locations, integration of various activities and environmentally responsible practices can be key towards improving the appeal of Greek touristic attractions beyond the sea and sand tourism that is prevalent in the country. Based on the findings it is suggested that the strategies of tourism development and adaptation take into consideration those aspects in order to improve the appeal for alternative types of tourism and for improving the capacities and performance of the Greek tourism beyond the current destinations that are linked mainly with the coastline and the historical and cultural heritage sites. |
