Abstract: The quest for new methods and materials to improve the production of food under land or greenhouse conditions is becoming imperative given the expected food production towards 2050. In addition, the change necessitates searching for materials to improve carbon sequestration. This study evaluated growing three lettuce varieties (Lactuca sativa L.) grown in grow boxes in a flooding hydroponics system and using perlite products and byproducts mixed with three v/v ratios with biochar. The results indicated significant effects of the treatments used and can be possibly used to add value and establishment a new hydroponic substrate medium used by the producers.
