dc.description.abstract | A study for the pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is attempted. Not with the pretension to add new knowledge to the field of agronomy, but rather with the will to gather information on the subject. This study might lead to the planting of pomegranates in an area of the Peloponnese in Greece (Anaziri Farm) and establish an alternative model of crop production for the area. Should this happen, I will be glad that unused, marginal and underdeveloped land will start producing a commodity, employ people, generate income and serve the toil of the growers. Sustainable production aspects are emphasized as well as the feasibility of this crop, considering strongly environmental issues, in view of the new Common Agricultural Policy to be implemented in 2014-2020 period. There is an increased worldwide demand for pomegranate products; this being the stimulant for the compilation of this dissertation Organic agriculture production aspects are noted in accordance to the enlarged consumer awareness for their quality. | en_US |
