Abstract: The aim of the present study is to present whether it is feasible to cultivate square watermelons in the region of Messinia in Greece, which is famous for the cultivation of large quantities of watermelon domestically with a strong export character. A comparison of conventional watermelon growing techniques with those used for square watermelon produced in Japan is essential. In addition, a market survey will be presented for square watermelon in general in order to see if the producers of Messinia could engage in this particular crop. In addition, a hypothetical analysis of the positive effects of this new crop in the region in the scenario of its integration is considered necessary.
