Abstract: The foundation of the circular economy model is the creation of a closed-loop supply chain, which extends the life of materials. Nevertheless, little is known about the principles and implementation of the circular economy in the fashion sector, despite the industry's efforts to reduce its environmental footprint. This research conducts a systematic literature review to identify four topics related to the application of a circular economy in the fashion industry: drivers, practices, barriers, and enablers for transitioning to a circular model. By employing a theoretical analysis, the current trends in the literature of circular fashion are highlighted, as well as the research gaps and future directions for further investigation are proposed. The findings produced a conceptual framework that provides a comprehensive knowledge concerning the way fashion companies might implement true circularity by including outside stakeholders in their circular-related activities. The present analysis offers valuable insights that can assist designers, academics, entrepreneurs, and innovators in facilitating the shift towards a circular economy in the textile and apparel industry.
