Abstract: | Asexual propagation contains numerous of techniques to propagate all kinds of plants, but not all methods are ideal or efficient for every plant species. This BSc Dissertation addresses the investigation of which growth substrates of the ones used are better for the growth of three plant species, Mexican orange (Choisya Ternate), Hydrangea (Hydrangea spps) and Rose (Rosa spps). Also two common commercial synthetic hormones (IBA, NAA) were used in different concentrations along with a control treatment to examine the effects of hormones on cutting rooting. Stem cuttings (softwood, hardwood, semi-hardwood) were taken from each plant and planted for about 2-3 months. This study presents the results of the percent rooting of each plant species within each substrate and rooting hormone chemical. It appeared that the BIOSLOLIDS growth substrate mixed with sand or perlite produced the higher precent of rooted cuttings as compared to the traditional "peat+perlite" substrate. The outcomes can be used further for in commercial nurseries commercial for rooting cuttings applications for each plant species. |
